Sound analysis: blog tasks

 1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film:

  • Diegetic and non-diegetic sound
  • Parallel and contrapuntal sound
  • Sound bridges
Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip:
  • Music
  • Dialogue
  • Voice over
  • Sound effects

This ain't a film clip but it works!

The Diegetic sound could be when the the characters in the game voice overs come when they are killing the zombies for example "what goes up must come down" that could be the example as the video cuts to zombies being thrown up in the air and then proceeds to fall down. The non-diegetic sound could be the sound playing over which is an upbeat pace song which fits in with the environment the voice overs when naming all the character could be a diegetic and non diegetic sound.

The music itself can be parallel which is upbeat music killing zombies which fits perfect and also the action scene the music fit there perfectly when it named all the characters. But however at the beginning of the clip it was a less upbeat music just the use of a bell which can suggest a ominous setting as it shows a worn out cable cart going up which can suggest to the audience that it is mysterious by the use of the music it can be seen as Contrapuntal.

The voice overs which give additionally information on the characters could be seen as a non-diegetic sound as it is prerecord and is played over the scene and the characters in the scene can't hear it only the audience

Costume Lighting Actor (placement and movement) Make-up Props Setting The Costume suggest that they are all old fashioned and that this is set in the late 1990s as they are all wearing suits or this may suggest that they are at a wedding or a party. The guy in the grey suit may be the main character as he is the only one in a grey suit. The Lighting is more so focused on the person in the grey suit which may show again that they are the main character. The Actor placement is one is standing straight up whilst the other actor is up against the car with his arms wide which may suggest that some conflict is gonna happen or the guy in the brown suit is scared and may try and run. Make-up there isn't that much make-up. There is some props such as the broken camera which may connote meaning that there was conflict just before it brok...
